The arboretum of Saint-Setiers has developed and enriched over the generations. In 1996, Mr and Mrs Nadalon decided to open this place to the public. Today, more than 130 species of trees – coniferous and leafy, young or centuries-old – as well as many flowered massifs compose a romantic setting, where each visit awakens the five senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch and even taste. In 2021, Guy Guenroc, passionate about trees, takes over the management of the site and commits to perpetuate the 'very nature' spirit of this historic park. After extensive restoration work, the arboretum reopens its doors in 2022\. Throughout the year, it offers a renewed show every season: each tree, each flower has its moment of glory. From February, the first blooms appear with butterflies, anemones, periwinkles... Then, the large trees are adorned with their spring foliage, like larch and hardwood. At the end of May, the rhododendrons bloom, followed by the seringat and the hydrangeas. In summer, the vegetation becomes luxuriant: hawthorns, maples, birches, rowanberries, holly, alders and the spectacular gunnera manicata unfold there. After fruiting, autumn envelops the park in flamboyant colors thanks to fake pistachio trees, magnolias, lime trees, oaks, beeches, hazelnuts, poplars and ash trees. Finally, winter highlights the many conifers: giant cedars, cryptomeria, douglas fir, cedar and spruce.
