Historical walk of the garden
Friday and Saturday at 3 pm
Through a historic walk of the Harmas garden, the public will be able to discover the essences of the garden, the different plant species, as well as the work of the gardeners to enhance it. Estimated visit duration: 2 hours.
Enter intimately into the entomologist’s house, labeled Maison des Illustrs, to immerse yourself in a 19th century atmosphere and discover its naturalist works and collections.
This 19th century garden designed by J.H. Fabre for the study of the insect in a natural environment, was shaped by his hands for 36 years. It is also a pleasure garden consisting of narrow alleys where wild and natural vegetation blossoms. This one-hectare garden that J.H. Fabre also called its "open-air laboratory" is rich in more than 500 species. A shaded terrace where tables and chairs suggest a relaxing break to the sound of the clapotis of the fountains, the wash-house and the pool. A pleasure garden, a vegetable orchard and a real arboretum representing a Mediterranean forest. The raised pool and its water jet are a prelude to the discovery of its green setting.
