Visit of the gardens of the castle of Villeneuve in Martigné Briand
The historic-inspired gardens at Château de Villeneuve (18th and 15th centuries) in Martigné Briand:
After passing the entrance gate, a landscaped courtyard is surrounded by the old buildings of this fortified farmhouse.
To the south, facing outwards and based on the precepts of Léon Batista Alberti (1404-1472), an Italian-inspired garden occupies the south terrace of the old house. A geometric parterre made of boxwood squares offers flat colored plants, vegetables or flowers. This garden is surrounded by pergolas and fountains in parallel. Below it, a bosco dark contrasts by its exuberant nature with the very bright upper garden.
At the bend of the terrace wall, discover an inventive orchard , overlooked by a vineyard slopes of Layon .
Outside the walls of the walls, the walled garden of Artus, of medieval inspiration, surrounded by a charmille, does not present any relation with the outdoor landscape. Very symbolic, based on the cross, it includes four entities: the flowers, the vegetable garden, simple squares and a chessboard rose garden. A maze in Ifs leads to the fountain of youth.
You will end with an alley of topiaries in yew and boxwood of medieval inspiration that will take you back to the house. A booklet is given. You will meet on the course the owners who can share their passion for this area.
