South of the city, wedged between the stream along the fortifications, the Faulbach spanned by a small wooden bridge, and the base of the rampart, the medieval garden is surprisingly reminiscent of those that can be seen in a late fifteenth century copy of the Honorary Stay of Octavian of Saint-Gelais. Well adapted to the restricted space of the site, this garden unfolds in length and responds, in its simplicity, to what the historian can expect from such an evocation. The garden opens with the space reserved for the simple, the indispensable plants at a time when the apothecary found most of his merchandise in the herbularium.
