The garden, of a 1 600 m2 area, is located in the bottom(stocking) of the village of Bonnieux on an abrupt ground. The ground in strong slope rises in terraces in terraces held(retained) by stony walls. The ground is poor and stony.
The garden is mainly established(constituted) of plants existent of garrigues: boxwood, laurel, thyme, rosemary, myrtle, strawberry tree, cistus accompanied with common plants in the region as cypresses, santoline, germandrée, feijoa, lavender. Flowers are less numerous and simple: iris, hollyhock, borage. The mineral elements also play it an important role: wall and stony staircases, incertum opus, balls and stony troughs.
What characterises the garden, it is first its insertion in landscape: plants are often cut in ball in harmony with the hills of Luberon; the low terrace is crashed of lavenders, olive tree to assure(insure) transition with the campaign(countryside). The garden of Nicole de Vésian is mainly known for its shrubs cut in ball. Contrary to the French-style garden, every unique(only) shrub by its shape, its colour, its texture participates in the creation of harmonious one tapestry of plants. The garden of the She-wolf is sometimes qualified as definite(formal) and minimalist, or even of "Japonisant" although his creator never evokes it.
This garden admired and often imitated is considered as one of the most beautiful of France.
