In 2024, France celebrates the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition, held in Paris in 1874. On this occasion, the Musée d'Orsay lent the city of Douai a painting by Claude Monet, La Rue Montorgueil, in Paris. Feast of June 30, 1878. Around this masterpiece, the Chartreuse museum gathers paintings, sculptures and pastels gathered thanks to Henri Duhem. The works of this Douai artist, influenced by Monet’s art, illustrate the spread of Impressionism in Flanders. For 40 years, Duhem brought works by Boudin, Renoir, Sisley and Pissarro to the Douai Museum and supported his friends Henri Le Sidaner and Henri Martin. This exhibition allows us to understand Impressionism through the rich collections of the Chartreuse museum.
