The three buildings of the pyramids were built in 1969-1970 by the architects Michel Andrault and Pierre Parat, partners in ANPAR. They are part of the development program of the ZUP of Mont-Bernon, for which Pierre Parat is responsible.
The Pyramids of Épernay are the first carried out by ANPAR, before those of Villepinte and Évry. The architects propose an alternative to the plans of bars and towers by setting up a layout of housing cells, which is intended as an intermediate solution between individual and collective habitat. They adopt the principle of staggered apartment arrangements, but in an exploded form, drawing a pyramid. This superposition of cubic concrete volumes allows the installation on roof terraces of numerous vegetation. The various accommodations are served by stairs and external walkways, describing a path over the entire height of the Pyramids. The volumes are highlighted by strips of raw concrete in cornice, also serving as a parapet for the terraces.
