Asteroids are a lot like love: they arrive unexpectedly and leave devastation in their wake. In his solo Astéroïde, Marco D’Agostin brings together scientific explanation, romantic confession and musical theatre. A palaeontologist steps onto the stage, handling ancient bones and recounting the story of the dinosaurs and their tragic extinction. But gradually, the structure of the lecture begins to crack. His body, like his words, starts to escape his control. He begins speaking about his feelings, his loves, until he is swept away by them, singing and dancing what can no longer be contained.
For the Italian choreographer and performer, the musical becomes a way of overcoming catastrophe. After heartbreak, as after the extinction of the dinosaurs, it may be our only refuge. An associate artist of Milan’s Piccolo Teatro, Marco D’Agostin brilliantly combines scientific storytelling, dance, theatre and the grand traditions of Broadway into a work bursting with humour, joy and imagination.

Les astéroïdes, c’est comme l’amour : ça surprend et ça dévaste. Dans son solo Astéroïde, Marco D’Agostin fait se percuter explications scientifiques, discours amoureux et comédie musicale. Un paléontologue monte sur scène et manipule des ossements antédiluviens. Il évoque les dinosaures et leur fin tragique. Mais peu à peu, le dispositif de la conférence se fissure. Son corps comme ses mots semblent lui échapper. Il se met à parler de ses sentiments, de ses amours, puis se laisse déborder jusqu’à les chanter et les danser.
Pour le chorégraphe et danseur italien, la comédie musicale devient une manière de survivre aux catastrophes. Après la rupture amoureuse comme après l’extinction des dinosaures, elle est peut-être notre seul recours. Artiste associé au Piccolo Teatro de Milan, Marco D’Agostin réussit son pari : traverser les pires effondrements avec joie, humour et vulgarisation scientifique, danse, théâtre et grand art de Broadway.
