"In the footsteps of an Australian soldier" by the Sir John Monash Center
A workshop for the whole family that tells the story of Australian soldier Valentine Rochfort who served on the Western Front. Children examine, touch and carry some of his objects.

During this workshop, a member of the Sir John Monash Centre team encourages families to experience Private Valentine Rochfort’s experience on the Western Front by inviting them to examine, handle and carry certain items from his personal suitcase. This workshop will give children a better understanding of Valentine’s life on the Western Front and the living conditions of soldiers in the trenches so far from Australia.
On Saturday, May 4, the Sir John Monash Centre comes to meet you at the Museum of the Battle of Fromelles. On this occasion, a mediator will share Australia’s history on the Western Front in two events:
- A family workshop to discover the life of an Australian soldier during the First World War
- A presentation for the greatest of Australian history on the Western Front and the Australian Memory Trail sites;

Au cours de cet atelier, un membre de l’équipe du Centre Sir John Monash encourage les familles à découvrir l’expérience du soldat Valentine Rochfort sur le front occidental en les invitant à examiner, à manipuler et à porter certains objets de sa valise personnelle. Cet atelier permettra aux enfants de mieux comprendre la vie de Valentine sur le front occidental et les conditions de vie des soldats dans les tranchées si loin de l’Australie.
Le samedi 4 mai, le Centre Sir John Monash vient à votre rencontre au Musée de la Bataille de Fromelles. A cette occasion, une médiatrice partagera l'histoire de l'Australie sur le front occidental lors de deux animations :
- un atelier à réaliser en famille pour découvrir la vie d'un soldat australien durant la Première Guerre mondiale
- une présentation pour les plus grands de l’histoire australienne sur le front occidental et des sites du Chemin de mémoire australien

Tijdens deze workshop moedigt een lid van het Sir John Monash Centre team gezinnen aan om de ervaring van Private Valentine Rochfort aan het westelijk front te ervaren door hen uit te nodigen om bepaalde voorwerpen uit zijn persoonlijke koffer te onderzoeken, te hanteren en mee te nemen. Deze workshop geeft kinderen een beter inzicht in het leven van Valentijn aan het westelijk front en de levensomstandigheden van soldaten in de loopgraven tot nu toe uit Australië.
Op zaterdag 4 mei is de Sir John Monash Centre Komt je ontmoeten in het Museum van de slag bij Fromelles. Bij deze gelegenheid zal een bemiddelaar de geschiedenis van Australië op het Western Front in twee evenementen delen:
- Een familieworkshop om het leven van een Australische soldaat te ontdekken tijdens de eerste Wereldoorlog
- Een presentatie voor de grootste Australische geschiedenis op het Western Front en de Australian Memory Trail sites;
