Behind the Museum of East Dorset is a tranquil walled garden tucked away in the centre of Wimborne. Colourful herbaceous borders and heritage orchard trees line the path which stretches 100 metres down to the mill stream. This year we have 3 evening garden lectures taking place at the Museum:
Friday 16th October - Thomas Hardy's Gardens in Dorset; Speaker Caps Browning, Senior Gardener at Max Gate, Dorchester & Hardy’s Cottage, Higher Bockhampton. Both of these gardens are now in the custodianship of the National Trust. Caps gardens them, with the help of volunteers, with the aim of keeping these gardens as close to how they would have been in Hardy’s day. Her knowledge is extensive & this will be an entertaining & informative talk about the garden environment of one of the country’s best loved authors & poets.
Friday 20th November - Holme-the making of an RHS partner garden. Speaker Simon Goldsack, owner of Holme for Gardens. Set within the picturesque Isle of Purbeck, award winning Holme for Gardens is a family run treasure, with beautifully landscaped gardens. It is the brainchild of Simon Goldsack, who, having qualified from Writtle College, set about creating the gardens, with the help of his wife Liz, from his parents’ dairy & fruit farm. His success is self evident and Holme is now an RHS partner garden which can be enjoyed alongside the well respected garden centre.
