It is one of the four national monuments dedicated to the Great War. Edifice built at the initiative of Marshal Foch who chose the site in 1919 as "synthetic place" of the battles of the Marne of September 1914 and summer 1918\. Work began in 1921 and was completed ten years later. Composed of a crypt, an upper chapel with a museum space, a cloister, an ossuary and a lantern of the dead, the memorial of Dormans dominates the valley of the Marne.
