The MAC VAL is the first museum to be exclusively dedicated to the art scene in France since the 1950s. The project of the museum developed over nearly fifteen years, following the creation in 1982 of the Departmental Fund of Contemporary Art. It was born from the conviction of the Val-de-Marne General Council that an intense action in favour of artistic creation, resolutely directed towards its audiences, contributes to the development of each one, to the knowledge of the other, to mutual respect, to social cohesion. A humanist vision of culture that stands out in the different missions of the museum. More than 2,500 works are among them, works by key artists of the art scene such as Christian Boltanski, Bruno Perrament, Claude Closky, Gina Pane, Annette Messager, Pierre Huyghe… but also works by emerging artists affirming the will of MAC/VAL to be as close as possible to contemporary creation.
