«The portrait in all its states»
Exhibition of the work done by the pupils of the nursery and elementary schools Jacques de Létin and Millard-Kléber, in Troyes.
As part of a partnership established several years ago with the museums of Troyes, 108 students from the nursery and elementary schools Jacques de Létin and Millard-Kléber worked during the 2022-12 school year2023 on the theme of the portrait and more particularly around the works presented in the Museum of Fine Arts as well as the Museum of Modern Art.
The genre of the portrait occupies a special place in the history of Western art. It is by definition the representation of a real person, especially the face, through drawing, painting and engraving. The collections of the Museums of the City of Troyes have many examples of portraits, which can identify several major characteristics.
Students from different classes visited museums to attend guided tours by cultural mediators. By browsing the collections of paintings of museums, they discovered heritage works around the theme of portraits, and identified the different types and uses. Then, creative workshops, led by plastic artists Rachel Mathaux and Apolline Pliez, were carried out in class, where students experimented with different plastic techniques.
