2 rue Paul Doumer, 59200 Tourcoing
Created by 1860, the museum of Tourcoing is installed(settled) in a gallery of the old(former) located city council Grand Place. Collections grew rich thanks to Charles Roussel-Defontaine, erudite person and mayor of Tourcoing (1857-1879) which favoured purchases, requested gifts(donations) and deposits(warehouses) of the State. After the construction of a new Town hall in 1866, the museum settled down in the galleries of the second floor. In 1931, the Museum of Fine Arts was created in 2, street Paul Doumer, according to the drawings of the architects Henry and Jean Maillard: compound of the mansion - sponsored(financed) by Ch. Roussel-Defontaine to the architect Charles Maillard in 1865, house of Albert Roussel compositor, and cousin of the painter tourquennois Charles Roussel - to which were added big(great) galleries typical of the architecture of the thirties, when prevails the shape of the square. The permanent collections are partly presented today in the conservatories which made up(composed) the winter garden of the mansion. The architects Jean-François Bodin and Thierry Germe realised in 1993-1994 the restructuring of the museum, allowing so to apply the cultural project, developed since 1986\. The welcome(reception) of Donation Eugene Leroy from the autumn, 2009 will occasion a new development project of the place (2009-2012). Since 1992, the museum questions the place as experimentation of work and makes have talks, by stylistic and thematic confrontations, contemporary art and art of the previous centuries, but also living arts and Visual Arts, while renewing collision(hanging) regularly. Confrontation results from a choice(selection) of major works of the permanent collections (Louis Leopold Boilly, Michel Bouillon, Rembrandt, Daniel Seghers and Erasme Quellinus, Jacques Des Rousseaux, Theodore Rombouts) in contemporary works (Angela Graeurholz, Felten-Massinger, Antoine Petitprez, Rémi Guerrin, Bruno Dumont, Matt Mullican, Philippe Cazal) and of the 20th century (Martin Barré, Eugene Leroy) belonging to the museum or in deposit(warehouse) of public collections (National Art Collection of Contemporary Art, Regional Collections of Contemporary Art, museums of the region and of France, Collection The British Council...) .Exposé from 1956 to the Museum of Tourcoing, Eugene Leroy sees his works including regularly the collections of the museum up to welcome(reception) this year of an important donation of his joint ownership which makes of the Museum of the Fine Arts of Tourcoing, from 2009, a reference place of the painter, a place of exhibition(exposure) of his works, of consultation of his archives, finally, a scientific, artistic and historic research centre was entirely devoted to the artist
