The Marcel Maulini museum redraws 250 years of history(story) of the work and the social life of the minors(miners) of coal of Ronchamp and the surrounding municipalities. Created in 1976 by Doctor Marcel MAULINI, telling two centuries of mining activity, the Museum evokes hard labour that was the work at the bottom of the appearance(mine), but also a great(tremendous) solidarity between the men(people). At the height of its activity, the coal field employed 1500 people who produced 200 000 tons of coal a year. It is by 1900 that a reduction in profitability will be felt(smelt) and will engender the permanent closure of the exploitation(operation) in 1958.
It is to pay tribute to these workers of the darkness that this Museum was set up. You will discover it an exceptional collection of lamps, as well as moving explanations on the hard working and living conditions of these men(people) working in bowels of the Earth. In 1992, the Museum of the Appearance(Mine) integrates(joins) the Network of the Museums of Techniques and Cultures natives of France-Comté.
