Fifty years ago, in April, 1969, Pierre Boigeol (1895-1974) gives to the City of Belfort his personal collection of military antiques(antiquities). These few eight hundred works establish(constitute) the birth certificate of the Museum of History(Story) of Belfort and the beginning of putting in tourism of the site of the citadel.

The Museum of History is located in the old barracks, in the heart of the Citadel. The collections reveal the different phases of the history of Belfort, and its region, through the presentation of several hundred objects characteristic of military life but also of the local history from prehistory to the twentieth century. Sculptures, paintings, objects, costumes, weapons, souvenirs related to the defense of Belfort in 1870 are to be discovered within the Museum.
