About the location

Maison natale de Victor Hugo
140 Grande Rue 25000 Besançon
  • Doubs
  • Bourgogne-Franche-Comté
On February 26, 1802, the house of 140 Grande-Rue in Besançon saw the birth of a world famous writer, Victor Hugo. In a contemporary scenography with a large place for multimedia, it is the struggles of the committed man who are presented, for freedom of expression, for human dignity, against the death penalty, for the rights of children and for the freedom of peoples. And because these struggles are still ongoing, four associations are partners of this house, in order to value their actions: Reporters Without Borders, ATD Quart-Monde, Unicef and Amnesty International. In addition to the visit itinerary, a literary and artistic program animates this place in a concern of cultural democratization.
