Unveiling of new exhibition(exposure) - Vinyls and Pop videos
Exhibition(Exposure) Vinyls and Pop videos gathers(combines) a set(group) importing vinyls from records(disks) and of dress handkerchiefs realised by artists, plastic surgeons, musicians and poets, coming from the collection of Guy Schraenen.
She(It) also proposes, in dialogue with this collection, a selection of artists' videos which used this other product of musical industry which is the video pop video.
Guy Schraenen was collector, publisher(editor) of art, gallery owner, police captain(commissioner) of exhibition(exposure), author...
Fascinated by sound(resounding) and visual poetry, it was interested during more than thirty years in published(edited) works and in numerous, spread(broadcasted) by the artists of different progressive movements from the end of the fifties to the eighties. Within the collection of Guy Schraenen, the section specialised on the theme of sound was put down(deposited) to the Museum Weserburg of Bremen.
Within this section, Maike Aden, historian of art and musicologist, operated on a selection for the Tail coat(Frac), offering so a large panorama on the artists and artistic movements of the XXth century and on their interest for sound(resounding) dimension(size).
Many(A lot) big(great) names of art indeed took over the record(disk): since Joan Mir ó and Fernand Léger until Damien Hirst, via(including) Gerhard Richter, Michelangelo Pistoletto and Robert Mapplethorpe, the common(current) main parts are represented. Collaborations between musicians and artists are numerous, with in particular Bobby O and Roy Lichtenstein or Philip Glass and Ground LEWITT. Rock bands and pop bands follow suit(follow the movement): Beatles chooses Richard Hamilton for «White album» and Peter Blake for Sgt. Pepper' s; Raymond Pettibon creates all the dress handkerchiefs of Black Flag, while Andy Warhol conceives(designs) dress handkerchiefs for the Underground Velveteen and for Rolling Stones. From his/her part(On his/her side), the Sonic Youth group collaborates with a different artist for each of its dress handkerchiefs and works with Jeff Wall, Gerhard Richter or else Richard prince.
Compared with this set(group) which concerns the artists principally from the XXth century to the eighties, Sylvie Zavatta, director(manager) of the Tail coat(Frac), proposes musical video clips among which some were recently realised.
The video pop videos were conceived(designed) at origin to support the advertising promotion(class) of songs, of musics, of albums or of groups. Numerous artists of contemporary visual arts found in this short size(format), coming from the advertising(publicity), a freedom of speech allowing them to mix(involve) gap, humor, provocations or misappropriations(diversions) while echoing ideas in grip(taking) with our time(period).
Taking over so objects and standards that are records(disks) and promotional pop videos, which participate of popular culture, the artists transform into ground of experimentation this musical industry which they intend to push aside(knock down), just as much as their precursors strove, since the futurists and dadaïstes, to push aside(knock down) borders between image and sound.
