About the location

Musée départemental Albert et Félicie Demard
7 rue de l'Église, 70600 Champlitte

It is in 1952, during the big(great) changes bound(connected) to rural exodus and to modernisation of farms, that Albert and Félicie Demard – founders of the museum - begin to acquire furniture and objects, that will contribute to the birth of the departmental Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions, in 1957\. Having based(established) in the sphere of influence of the National Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions, the museum settles down in the castle of Champlitte and becomes departmental in 1963\. This one offers an overview of the rural company(society) to the turning point(bend) of the 19th century. The stage design, based on reconstructions of peasant inside (common rooms), of workshops (works of the iron, of the hemp, of the lace) and of businesses (coffee(café), grocery, milliner) plunges the visitor into a village community where rites and popular beliefs gave rhythm to the time(weather).
