Museum of weaving of Chauffailles. 46 bis, rue du 8 mai, 71170 Chauffailles 03-85-84-65-16\. Opening in July-August: every day from 2.30pm to 6pm and the other months on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2.30pm to 6pm. Closed from 1 October to 31 March. The museum presents all the manipulations "from the wire to the fabric", whether on hand craft or mechanical crafts. Starting in 1842, silk weaving began in Chauffailles, and only in 1880, Lyon’s mechanical silk weaving factories came to settle in our commune, so it was important to preserve our heritage. For the work of the wire, are presented very old pedal machines, as well as the evolution of these machines towards the motor equipment. Four hand looms (all wood and original) are in working order, visitors can try to weave! Three mechanical looms from the 1920 era are also presented. Every Wednesday afternoon, come and see the volunteers weaving! Of these fabrics, are made beautiful confections to discover!
