Stories of the Earth: The Strange Fossils of Burgess - The Story of an Extraordinary Paleontological Discovery
How do paleontologists work? Come and find out through the story of one of the most important paleontological discoveries: the Burgess Shale.
In the early 20th century, several excavation seasons uncovered extraordinary fossils dating from the Cambrian period, a time of remarkable diversification of life on Earth. Long before the age of dinosaurs, strange and fascinating animals inhabited the oceans. Among them was Opabinia, whose five eyes and claw-tipped proboscis continue to astonish scientists and visitors alike.
Join us to discover these incredible fossils and learn how they transformed our understanding of the history of life.
