Marie van Berchem

During this weekend of celebrations, the MEG Library is hosting artist Marie Van Berchem for three performances on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November.

Goûter/Dégoûter:
The emblematic products of the slave trade are omnipresent in our snacks: tea, coffee, sugar, cocoa... This menu is a reminder of the importance of today's transatlantic trade, showing that the trade has intensified rather than abolished. To give just one example, coffee exports today are eighty times higher than they were in the 18th century. The exhibition takes us from the beginning of the European colonisation of America to the present day, looking at the agri-food trade and the associated practices of slavery and intensive exploitation.

Marie van Berchem is a multi-disciplinary artist with a range of committed projects. As an artist, performer, director and illustrator, Marie creates in the plural, delving into her history and staging her experience, her body and her reality. Her projects are multi-faceted, playful investigations that engage us in critical thinking.
