Sunday movie Kids: Pompoko
As part of the temporary exhibition "Environmental Injustice - Indigenous People's Alternatives", which runs until 21 August 2022, the Sunday movie continues! Animated films about the climate emergency and the impact of environmental change will be shown throughout the exhibition.
Half raccoon, half badger, the Tanuki easily shared their living space with farmers. Interspersed with battles between tribes, their carefree life made them ignore the ever-closer presence of humans... Until the day when the latter decided to take over their territory and turn the mountain into a city. Able to metamorphose at will, the Tanukis will try to frighten the humans with their extraordinary powers. However, it will take more than that for the humans to give up the destruction of the forest. Faced with the threat of expansion, the Tanuki fight back, but the animals are not at the end of their tether!
This film by Isao Takahata perfectly illustrates the notion of fighting for the environment, here through the tanuki, benevolent and joyful beings living in the forest and close to the figure of the Japanese kitsune. Produced by Studio Ghibli, this work for children and adults alike deals with the revolt against environmental destruction, as well as industrial and ecological disasters, themes that are also addressed in the temporary exhibition "Environmental Injustice - Indigenous Alternatives".
Film in French.
