Sunday Movie : Green Warriors - Indonesia, the world's most polluted river
The MEG's Ciné-dimanches are back for a season based on three essential and current notions: decolonisation, gender and sustainability. Documentary, fiction and animation films addressing these themes will be screened free of charge in the Museum's Auditorium on several Sundays per month.
The impact of our consumption of clothing and the industry that goes with it on the climate is well known. But what are the alternatives? How can we take care of our environment and still dress the way we want?
The Citarum River in Indonesia is the most polluted river in the world. One of the main polluters is hiding in our wardrobe: the fashion industry. 500 textile factories discharge their wastewater directly into the Citarum. In the field, with the help of committed citizens, a team of "Green Warriors" analyses the water from the industries' spillways, the rice irrigated by the river or the hair of children living in these contaminated areas. They discovered the presence of numerous chemicals that were dangerous to health. This scientific investigation forced the government to change its regulations against pollution from the textile industry.
