The conference takes place at 3.30pm instead of 2pm.

Fifty years after its invention, the notion of speciesism has escaped from the lecture halls and philosophy books to fully enter the public debate. This is excellent news for animals, and will hopefully help to change their social and legal status. However, there is a certain amount of confusion surrounding this concept and the arguments behind it. Philosopher François Jaquet will attempt to clear up some of these misunderstandings in this talk, which will focus on three questions: a conceptual question (What exactly is speciesism?), an empirical question (Does speciesism exist?) and a moral question (Is speciesism unjust?).

Speaker:

In collaboration with the Centre Interfacultaire en sciences affectives (UNIGE, CISA).
