The Museum of Ethnography Geneva (MEG) and the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation are joining forces to inaugurate a new cycle of musical evenings entitled Échantillonnner le monde. Presented by Neuchâtel-based sound artist Arthur Henry, these evenings offer an opportunity to discover the ambitious video series "Sampling the World" that he launched in 2022 (https://arthur-henry.com/). Equipped with microphones and sound recording equipment, Arthur Henry stops off in different cities around the world to capture the sound traces of everything he comes across, from rubbish bins to trams, birds and, of course, the people who live there. Arthur Henry then samples all these voices and sounds and bring them together to create a sound and visual composition that reveals his memory of a site.
For each evening of Échantillonner le monde, Arthur Henry presents the sound portrait of a city. His presentation will be followed by a listening session of recordings related to the theme, taken from the International Archives of Folk Music (IAFM).The selection for this second edition will be made by John Menoud.
The Échantillonner le monde evenings will be held at the Café du MEG on the occasion of the Nuits des Bains.
To mark the occasion, the museum's permanent and temporary exhibition rooms will be open until 8.30 pm.
