FLEE announces a new 2xLP compilation and a trilingual book on the unique and mysterious Athos peninsula in eastern Greece.Mount Athos, known as the "sacred mountain", is a monastic peninsula in north-eastern Greece that has been at the heart of Eastern Orthodox monasticism for over a thousand years. Its twenty monasteries are home to around 2,000 monks dedicated to prayer and worship, whose chants have echoed across the Aegean Sea for centuries, heard only by passing pilgrims, isolated from conventional time and world events. After several years of research and several visits to the retired community, we are delighted to present our new project 'Athos: Echoes of the Holy Mountain', devoted to this liturgical music and repertoire that seem to evolve outside the usual boundaries of time and space. Rooted in Byzantine chant, this acappella tradition essential to monastic life presents complex and serene melodies designed to facilitate prayer and contemplation, using a system of modes and scales to create a meditative atmosphere.transdisciplinary, this documentation effort also includes an aspect of artistic reinterpretation inviting contemporary Greek and foreign artists to reflect on the subject.
A musical compilation featuring original recordings from the 1960s and today capturing the essence of Mount Athos liturgical music, as well as new compositions inspired by these recordings by artists such as Holy Tongue (UK), Jay Glass Dubs (GR), Prins Emanuel & Inre Kresten Grupp (SWE), Jimi Tenor (FI), Gilb'r(FR), Daniel Paleodimos (GR), Esma & Murat Ertel (TUR) and Organza Ray (GR/US). A trilingual book in English, Greek and French, including essays, articles, photographs and artistic contributions on the theme, featuring contributors such as Stratos Kalafatis, Theodore Psychoyos, Tefra90, Father Damaskinos Ulkinuora, Prof. Thomas Apostolopoulos, Makar Tereshin, PhaedraDouzina-Bakalaki, Michelangelo Paganopoulos and Alberto Cameroni. The release of the book and CD will be followed by a series of exhibitions and conferences, showcasing FLEE's year-long research on Mount Athos and the many works of art it has commissioned.FLEE006 "Athos: Echoes from the Holy Mountain" will be available worldwide at www. fleeproject.com and at selected retailers from 27.06.2024.

FLEE annonce une nouvelle compilation 2xLP et un livre trilingue sur l'unique et mystérieuse péninsule de l'Athos en Grèce orientale.
Le mont Athos, connu sous le nom de "montagne sacrée", est une péninsule monastique située au nord-est de la Grèce, au cœur du monachisme orthodoxe oriental depuis plus d'un millénaire. Ses vingt monastères abritent environ 2 000 moines dédiés à la prière et au culte, dont les chants résonnent depuis des siècles sur la mer Égée, entendus uniquement par les pèlerins de passage, isolés du temps conventionnel et des événements mondiaux. Après plusieurs années de recherche et plusieurs visites à la communauté retraitée, nous sommes heureux de présenter notre nouveau projet "Athos : Echos de la Sainte Montagne", consacré à cette musique liturgique et à ce répertoire qui semblent évoluer en dehors des frontières habituelles du temps et de l'espace. Enracinée dans le chant byzantin, cette tradition acappella essentielle à la vie monastique présente des mélodies complexes et sereines conçues pour faciliter la prière et la contemplation, utilisant un système de modes et de gammes pour créer une atmosphère méditative.Transdisciplinaire, cet effort de documentation comprend également un aspect de réinterprétation artistique invitant des artistes contemporains grecs et étrangers à réfléchir sur le sujet. Une compilation musicale qui comprend des enregistrements originaux des années 1960 et d'aujourd'hui capturant l'essence de la musique liturgique du Mont Athos, mais aussi de nouvelles compositions inspirées de ces enregistrements par des artistes tels que Holy Tongue (UK), Jay Glass Dubs (GR), Prins Emanuel & Inre Kresten Grupp (SWE), Jimi Tenor (FI), Gilb'r(FR), Daniel Paleodimos (GR), Esma & Murat Ertel (TUR) et Organza Ray (GR/US). La sortie du livre et du disque sera suivie d'un cycle d'expositions et de conférences, mettant en œuvre les recherches menées par FLEE pendant un an sur le Mont Athos, ainsi que les nombreuses œuvres d'art qu'elle a commandées.
