Last year, Papuan chief Mundiya Kepanga donated a huli ornament to the MEG.
This year, he returns to the Museum on 21 April 2024 to meet the public through two activities: a meeting with children on the art of feathers and the screening of his new documentary, Gardiens de la forêt, le temps des solutions.

On Sunday 21 April 2024, the Papuan chef will be talking to children! Mundiya, who is used to meeting future generations to raise awareness of the need to respect the environment, will be presenting the art of forest ornaments from the Huli tribe of Papua New Guinea. Mundiya unveils the collection of seeds, feathers and plants that go to make up his ornaments, created exclusively from natural materials sourced from the forest. He details the meticulousness of each of the elements that go to make up an ornament similar to the one he presented to MEG. If he's in a good mood (which is usually the case!), Mundiya will most likely offer one of the participants the chance to become his or her model and will adorn them entirely during the workshop: an honour usually reserved for initiates and top chefs!

Mundiya Kepanga, Papuan chief of the Huli tribe, leads a traditional life in his village in the heart of one of the world's primary forests. In his culture, a tree is planted at each birth, and each deceased person is buried at the foot of a tree, as the latter is considered a "brother". "As long as there are trees, there will be people", Mundiya, like his ancestors, likes to repeat. Committed to defending the environment, and in particular his country's primary forest, the traditional leader has been travelling around Europe since 2003, giving talks at the invitation of museums, researchers and schools. He has spoken on numerous occasions at international conferences in Paris (COP21...), London and New York.
