In April 2024, Portugal commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, the event that put an end to Western Europe's longest dictatorship in the 20th century. In the decade leading up to this historic event, Switzerland - and Geneva in particular - welcomed many Portuguese political exiles and students. Two witnesses to this revolutionary period are invited to talk.From the end of the 1960s onwards, Geneva witnessed a wave of international solidarity debates, festivals and street demonstrations. What were the driving forces: anti-imperialism, a humanitarian perspective or support for the emancipation of peoples? The discussion will be based on a selection of militant posters (1968-1985) held by the Bibliothèque de Genève, the Archives contestataires and the Collège du travail.
