Lange Zeit wurde zu den Alpen Distanz gehalten, doch mit den ersten Expeditionen im späten 18. Jahrhundert wurden sie nicht nur zum Studienobjekt, sondern auch zu einem eigenständigen Bildthema.
Diese Ausstellung würdigt die Kunstschaffenden, deren Ansätze je nach Persönlichkeit und Epoche variieren und unsere Wahrnehmung der Berge immer wieder erneuern. In alle Richtungen vermessen und aus verschiedenen Perspektiven gezeigt, erscheint das Gebirge manchmal unveränderlich und gleichsam zeitlos, manchmal gefährdet und bedroht. Er zeigt sich atemberaubend oder friedlich, gelegentlich überraschend, immer bewegend.
Die ausgestellten Gemälde, Druckgrafiken, Fotografien, Videos und Objekte sind ikonische oder unerwartete Werke, die den wilden oder gebändigten Charakter der Berge beleuchten und im aktuellen Kontext, der die Klimaprobleme in den Mittelpunkt der öffentlichen Debatte rückt, ihre unzerstörbare Natur in Frage stellen.

The exhibition proposes a dialogue between iconic and unusual works. Here, the mountain is approached in a singular way by proposing a set of images of the Alps from different angles.

For a long time kept at a distance, the Alps have become a subject of study and their own pictorial subject ever since the first expeditions in the late 18th century.
This exhibition pays homage to the artists, their approaches varying depending on personality and period. They continuously reorient our perception. Surveyed from every angle, sometimes unchanging and almost eternal, other times fragile and threatened, the mountain is ascended from different perspectives. It reveals itself as dizzying or peaceful, at times surprising, always moving.
Ranging from iconic to surprising, the paintings, engravings, photographs, videos and objects exhibited investigate both the mountain’s wild and tamed character and, in the present context, where climate questions are at the centre of public debate, they reevaluate its indestructible nature.

L’exposition propose un dialogue entre des œuvres iconiques et insolites. Ici, la montagne est abordée de façon singulière en proposant un ensemble d’images des Alpes sous différents angles.

Longtemps tenues à distance, les Alpes sont devenues, dès les premières expéditions de la fin du XVIIIe siècle, sujet d’étude mais aussi sujet pictural à part entière.
Cette exposition rend hommage aux artistes dont les approches varient selon les personnalités et les époques, orientant sans cesse notre perception de la montagne. Arpentée en tous sens, tantôt immuable et quasi éternelle, tantôt fragile et menacée, elle est montrée sous différentes perspectives. Elle se révèle alors vertigineuse ou paisible, parfois surprenante, toujours émouvante.
Œuvres iconiques ou inattendues, les peintures, gravures, photographies, vidéos et objets exposés interrogent son caractère sauvage ou au contraire domestiqué et, dans le contexte actuel qui place les questions climatiques au centre du débat public, remettent en question sa nature indestructible.
