Jean-Marc Meunier
The city is at the core of Jean-Marc Meunier's work (1958-2020). The photographer's idea is to identify what makes up its character. Through a series of shots, he paints a multi-faceted portrait of it, mainly set in Geneva.
The documentary style of his approach, using neither effects nor discourse, explores the lesser spectacular side of urban fabric: areas unused or under construction, empty spaces, city centres converted into identical pedestrian and commercial zones. ln an ironie way, these "non-places" set the scene for a standardised urban expansion.
