In 1626, Rolette Revilliod was burned alive in Geneva, after being imprisoned for eleven years in a chapel in the village of Jussy on the pretext of practicing witchcraft. In the region, twelve witches and three sorcerers suffered a similar fate between 1539 and 1641. The show "Burn Witch!" offers a musical journey to evoke this dark page of persecution practiced against a free woman, probably raped by a neighbor and then incarcerated until her execution as a scapegoat for a long period of famine. With a text by Genevan pastor Vanessa Trüb, performers Viviane Urio, Oriane Joubert and Marie Ruchat summon Handel, Bartok, Aretha Franklin and France Gall to stage with the appropriate emotion this dark page in the history of women in Geneva and elsewhere.
