The digitization of musical documents in libraries around the world is leading us to rethink the links between images and music. If these links are as old as musical notation itself, the digital world that is developing today enables us to establish new ones, and opens up unprecedented research horizons in musicology. This, however, requires the development of music-specific data models and the tools needed to produce and process them. In this presentation, we will look at these issues and the opportunities they present, following a path that takes us from image to sound.
Laurent Pugin obtained his doctorate from the University of Geneva. He is currently co-director of the RISM Digital Center and a lecturer in musicology and digital humanities at the University of Bern.
