Richard BELOSTYK, associate professor of History-Geography, doctor in History, member of the Historical Society of Villeneuve d'Ascq will present the war course of his father Jan BELOSTYK, young Polish immigrant from France. Saturday, February 7 at 3 pm at the Musée du Terroir. Free.

Jan Belostyk, a Polish immigrant in the 1939-1947 war

Living with his family in the free zone of the Allier, Jan decided in 1942 to join the ranks of the Polish army in Great Britain. Instead of escaping from France through Spain, he chose to Join the Foreign Legion in North Africa and wait for the opportunity to join Polish forces. Events will prove him right.
In July 1943, it landed in Britain. After checks by the British, it was assigned to a special unit of paras-commandos whose mission will be to operate, jointly with the Polish Resistance, diversions in northern France on the rear lines of retreating German troops, facing the Allied advance.
From the end of the war to early 1947, he was part of Polish occupation troops in Germany.
