Château de la Chasse
122 rue de Paris 95680 Montlignon
  • Val-d'Oise

Nowadays, the Château de la Chasse remains an architectural curiosity. It bears the traces of numerous changes undergone during its history. Located in the heart of the Montmorency forest, the Château de la Chasse was built in the 12th century by Mathieu de Montmorency. It is surrounded by a pond and has four round towers, with picturesque charm. A royal hunting appointment, he welcomed Jean Le Bon, Charles V, Louis XI... During the Hundred Years' War, the castle served as a garrison. In 1728 it failed to be demolished, on the orders of the grandson of the Grand Condé. But the towers were only truncated at an angle and covered with tiles. In 1900 the Château de la Chasse was nothing more than a farm in a pitiful state. It was declared a Historical Monument in 1933, acquired by the State in 1973 and restored in 1980\. It is managed by the National Forestry Office, opening its doors for a few events and activities for school children.
