Scottish Songs - Roslin Castle
Roslin Castle
The art of Scottish tunes & songs was, from 1700 to 1900 a real institution that went far beyond the simple framework of traditional music. The English gentlemen loved these melodies with intoxicating perfume, which alternate the most poetic melancholy and unbridled euphoria, to the point that anthological publications succeeded one another over the generations... Leading composers fell in love with this repertoire (Haydn, Beethoven, Weber...).
The artists of the Atelier Lyrique and La Grande Ecurie and the Chambre du Roy take you to the Highlands of the 1720s with James Oswald, the most famous composer and compiler of Scottish songs; we will meet some major figures of the Italian baroque,Veracini or even Geminiani who made fabulous variations on some of these curious and favorite Scots Songs.
It is a very friendly repertoire that was played, at the time, in front of an audience drinking a small Irish mug. This concert can take the form of a café-concert in the Irish pub spirit. The concert will be presented upstream by Alexis Kossenko, he will also comment during the concert.
