Free visit of permanent collections
Located in the center of Neufchâtel-en-Bray, a few steps from the Avenue Verte, in the oldest bourgeois house with wooden panels and corbels dating from the end of the sixteenth century that subsists in the City, the Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions Mathon Durand, Classified Museum of France, presents to visitors the history and traditions of Neufchâtel-en-Bray and the Pays de Bray through its rich and varied collections unique on the local level, stretching from prehistory until the beginning of the 20th century.
The collections are spread over 4 levels. In the original vaulted cellar was restored a space dedicated to the oldest PDO cheese in Normandy: the Neufchâtel. The ground floor and the 1st floor bring together the collections of archaeology, Military Art, Decorative Arts, Ethnography, Sacred Art, crafts disappeared such as the tooth puller, the reconstruction of a brayon interior… but also a manuscript cabinet presenting an exceptional 13th century illuminated Bible in 5 volumes from the Foucarmont Abbey.
Then on the 2nd floor, under the beautiful original frame, the museum invites visitors to discover a model representing the City of Neuf Castel fortified, animated by a robot triggering comments and lights.
