Season[s], a Tale of Creation
This event is an invitation to explore both the birth of a wine during a vintage, and the creation of the glass recipient destined to hold it. The approaches taken by designer and winemaker echo the theme of the exhibition Mind-blowing! When art and design meet glass. The evening begins with a screening of the film Saison[s], l’histoire d’une création (‘Season[s], a tale of creation’) by Jérôme de Gerlache (duration approx. 26 min), made especially for the exhibition. It describes the links between a wine vintage produced by the winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt and the creation of a glass ‘drinking item’ (vino sospeso) by the designer Matali Crasset. The act of creativity, whether as a winemaker or a designer, is a powerful, emotional act punctuated with doubts and questions, joys and sometimes disappointments. This journey is the film’s common thread. The screening is followed by an encounter with the film’s protagonists to discuss the parallels between these two forms of art: how do glass and wine both fit within a terroir and a culture? How do you design a tasting object that is not only aesthetic, but also re-examines the ritual of drinking? ‘Step to one side and look at how they are used with an outsider’s eye. To see things in a new light, remove the superficial’’, as Matali Crasset puts it.How did director Jérôme de Gerlache tackle this dual portrait? With:Matali Crasset, designerStéphane Derenoncourt, biodynamic winemakerJérôme de Gerlache, directorLed by Jeanne Quéheillard, design theoretician
