This year, and for the very first time, the Maison de la pierre is participating in the Journées nationales de l'Architecture on October 14.
The event will take place partly in the premises of the Stone House and partly in the church of Saint-Maximin. The objective: to follow the path of the stone from its extraction to the building.
To do this, we involve two specialists:
- Jean-Pierre Gély, researcher specialized in the formation and use of limestone in the Paris Basin, will present the history of the carrier basin in the south of the Oise, 2000 years of success! - Nicolas Bilot, archaeologist at the departmental archaeological service of Oise**, will present the profession of archaeologist based on the concrete example of the church of Saint-Maximin**:
"An archaeologist sometimes raises his head to the old building to take an interest in questions relating to the techniques of shaping, the methods of construction, the progress of the site, all this re-evaluating the role of the craftsmen. He tries to date the different phases of construction and, that’s another matter! Come and meet us to discover an original profession, directly connected to stone."
The animation will take place in 4 stages: - conference by Jean-Pierre Gély - visit of the underground quarry and then the open pit quarry - visit of the church of Saint-Maximin commented by Nicolas Bilot - time of exchange around a glass of friendship at the end of the day
