Le Puy-Blain is an enclosed architectural complex composed of a manor house of the extreme end of the sixteenth century, a tower and remains of a strong house of the fifteenth century, a crenellated entrance gate and a bastioned fort. It is located on a small promontory overlooking the Dolo valley, at the exit of Bressuire on the road to Clazay.
A Bressuire stronghold, it depended on the Châtellenie de Pugny (near Moncoutant) and was owned by Jean de la Coussaie at the end of the 14th century. Jean des Loges confessed in 1442\. In the sixteenth century, it belonged to Perrine Le Blanc, of Saint-Porchaire, who brought it as a dowry during his marriage to Hilaire Goguet, lawyer of Fontenay-le-Comte, friend of Rabelais (who dedicated his first book to him) and great-great-grandfather of Scarron.
