Guided tour of the clock tower
Real Parisian monument, the Lion railway station opens its doors on September 21st and 22nd, 2019 on the occasion of European Heritage Days.
PROGRAMME
Several modules of visits will be proposed to the public to discover the historical heritage of the station.
- The Clock tower
Built between 1895 and 1902, the station was then extended from 1927. Its famous belfry dominates the square in 67 metres in heights. It is adorned with four dials 6,5 metres in diameters. The clock tower, as the facade of the station is registered on the inventory of historic monuments and offers a fantastic view over Paris. An exhibition(exposure) of old(former) posters and of photos of the construction of the station from 1900 to our days will be revealed on 4 levels.
- The Restaurant of the Blue Train
Old(Former) «Sideboard(Buffet) of the Station», this splendid restaurant is located on the first floor of the main building(ship). Of style Empire with its flamboyant decoration, it was inaugurated in 1901, in full "Belle Epoque". In 1963, the «Sideboard(Buffet) of the Station» takes its current name of " Blue Train ", in homage to the old(former) night trains «Paris - Nice - Ventimiglia».
