L'Archipel became a national stage in June 2012, a label awarded by the Ministry of Culture and Communication to certain public theatres in France. There are only 74 to date in the whole country. Its objective is to be a place of production and dissemination of contemporary creations in the field of live performance. Since 1 January 2011, L'Archipel has been a "Public Establishment for Cultural Cooperation" and brings together a set of venues in the city of Perpignan, including the Grenat, the Carré and the concert hall Elmediator.
