On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the 18th century church of Saulx-Marchais opens its doors for a day of discovery and mediation around its history and restoration.
Throughout the day, visitors will be able to browse an exhibition installed in the building, highlighting the works and objects preserved in the church. Explanations will help to better understand their origin, their symbolism and their place in religious and local life over the centuries.
Particular attention will be paid to the traces of the old village and earlier buildings, still visible in some architectural elements and reuses of materials. These remains bear witness to the different stages of construction and transformation of the site, offering a true journey back in time at the heart of the history of Saulx-Marchais.
Panels and explanatory interventions will also present the renovation works of the building recently carried out or in progress. Visitors will thus be able to understand the challenges of restoration: consolidation of structures, preservation of heritage elements and respect for the original architecture.
This day is both educational and immersive, allowing to discover a living heritage, between history, memory of the village and safeguarding of an emblematic building.

Remarkably unitary church built in 1718 and 1719 by brother Convers François Romain, engineer and inspector of Pont et Chaussées. The clever apparatus of brick, stone and rubble of the external elevations strongly evokes the northern origins of the builder (Holland) giving a touch of strangeness to this building of classical design. WESTERN facade topped with a bell tower, formerly provided with an imperial roof. Nave with single ship of three bays preceded by a bell tower span, choir of three bays in the extension. The interiors, arched in brick or paneled, have preserved vestiges of their original decoration.
