The church is dedicated to Saint Louis, King of France under the name of Louis IX from 1226 to 1270\. He came to pray on this island, then occupied by a few cows, and he took the Cross with his knights in 1269 to go deliver Jerusalem. He bought from the Emperor Baldwin II of Constantinople the relic of the crown of thorns of Christ: we can thus see him, on the statue placed under the tribune of the organ carrying it.
