The parish church of Saint-Pantaléon consists of several elements from different eras: the bell tower is the old crossing tower of the Romanesque church, which also retains the north arm of the transept. The nave and choir were rebuilt from 1874 to 1877 by the architect Jean-Baptiste Schacre in a neo-Romanesque style. The primitive church, dating from the 2nd quarter of the 12th century, was oriented; known by graphic documents and a model made in the nineteenth century, it consisted of a nave (whose piles have been cleared on the ground of the enclosure), arched, a transept with tower crossing, a choir on a small crypt, also arched. The church of Gueberschwihr is one of the first Romanesque churches in Alsace to be entirely vaulted, in the middle of the 12th century. On the outside, the decoration was mainly located on the apse, formed by lesenes over the entire height of the elevation and under the axial window with a polychrome checkerboard pattern adorned with reliefs. In 1837 the church was enlarged by adding a span to the site of the old choir and the construction of a new choir, as well as widening the aisles, under the direction of the architect Pétin (Louis?). This church having shown a lack of solidity, it was decided to replace it in 1874 by a new building, retaining the Romanesque tower and an arm of the transept, the new nave and the choir being oriented to the north, perpendicular to the old church. Jean-Baptiste Schacre’s project of 1870 was executed from 1874 to 1877\. The date 1876 appears on the staircase screwed against the steeple, the date 1877 at the top of the front pinion. the old nave was only destroyed in 1887, requiring a consolidation of the tower, carried out by Charles Winkler. The church was once surrounded by the cemetery, possibly originally fortified, which included a chapel-ossuary dedicated to Saint Michael; it undoubtedly dated from the 2nd half of the 12th century and was destroyed in 1835\. Remains of elevation are visible on the retaining wall surrounding the church, to the west. A chapel was built in the enclosure around 1880, housing a cave of Lourdes.
