The Prefectural residence invites you to discover the canvas "The sinking of a boat of the ship Algeciras", winner of the competition the Largest Museum of France led by the Foundation "The Safeguarding of French Art" conducted in the DROM COM of the America area (September 2022 to March 2023).
This work is the property of the association "Safeguarding the Heritage of the Archipelago" which thanks to the strong mobilization of Internet users in the last stage of the contest in 2023 (51% of the votes), allowed the association to benefit from a sponsorship by Allianz France for its restoration.
The 41st edition of the European Heritage Days is an opportunity to present the restored work and the conservation-restoration process carried out by the curator-restorer of "L'atelier K", Ms Kiriaki Tsesmeloglou last autumn in the archipelago.
A nice way to thank the population who was able to mobilize for the restoration of this work and for the benefit of a cultural and heritage association of the archipelago. Joseph Lemoine (1830-1886) is today the only local painter known in the nineteenth century.

The building was built around 1885\. It served as a dwelling for the administration of the Maritime Registration Service. Since 1934, this hotel has remained a Gubernationale and prefectural residence. In 1941 and 1942, it housed Admiral Muselier, Captain Heron de Villefosse, and then Mr. Alain Savary for several months. The President of the Republic Charles de Gaulle stayed there during his visit to Saint-Pierre on 20 July 1967\. It was completely renovated in 1957.
