Designed in 1786 by architect Mathurin Crucy, it was built after the destruction of the medieval ramparts in 1790\. Its majestic fountains of blue and bronze granite represent the Loire (in the form of Amphitrite, daughter of Neptune) and its tributaries, surmounted by the city of Nantes.
