In its more than twenty years of existence, the Béziers archive centre has collected nearly 3.5 million individual files from railway and SNCF personnel. Since its inception, the centre has made these files available to all, researchers, genealogists… At the heart of Biterrois, but with national missions of collection, communication and valorization, we are the guardians of the history of these railwaymen.
In this vein, the SNCF National Personnel Archives Centre is once again participating in the European Heritage Days with a workshop entitled «Come and explore the world of the 7 networks!». To make you discover its archives and the history of the major railway networks before the creation of the SNCF, the team of the National Personnel Archive Center of Béziers has designed a large set of richly illustrated cards, But a mischievous archivist on the team tried to meddle with these cards. We invite you to come and untangle them!
At the end of the workshop, a visit of our premises, usually forbidden to the public, will be offered. You will no doubt be surprised by the quantity of documents, as well as the diversity of the media preserved. Finally, we will explain how to look for a railroad ancestor in the Béziers fund and will remain at your disposal to help you find one of yours.
