Built in the 17th century and redesigned in the 18th, the castle of Plaisir is classified as a historic monument, as well as its park and its common (facades and roofs). If the interior of the castle has been completely redesigned, it has however retained its exterior architectural aspect of the 16th century, located in the middle of its classical garden whose organization is still read. The first mention of a «hostel sis à Plaisir» is made in the Middle Ages during the Hundred Years War. However, the current castle was built under Louis XIII. He then belonged to a large family of advisers to the King (Le Tellier) before constituting an important agricultural estate. It now houses the Château’s media library and the city’s cultural services. Proposed by the city of Plaisir and the Musée de la ville de SQY

About the location

Château de Plaisir
282 rue de la Bretéchelle 78370 Plaisir
  • Yvelines
  • Île-de-France
Built in the late 16th-early 17th century, the Le Tellier family built the castle in the typical 17th century style. Around 1720, the estate passed into the hands of the Goullet-de Rugy family and then, by descent, to the Saint-Sauveur family until the Revolution. In 1939, the property was acquired by Monsieur Bourdel, who undertook the original restoration of the park and buildings. He was the last private owner before the purchase of the castle and its park by the municipality in 1976\. Originally, the building had only the central part, corresponding to the terrace that preceded it. Its architecture and interior design elements attest to the Louis XIII style. The two low wings and the attached agricultural buildings were added in the 18th century.
