Biography, main lines of action and thought of the founder of the Festival d'Avignon (1947), director of the Théâtre National Populaire (1951-1963), presentation of models and costumes, manuscripts, correspondence, direction and service notes, posters, press kits, audiovisual screenings, etc. Designing theatre as a «public service», Jean Vilar, with his authentic virtues, nourishes reflection on the place of the living spectacle in society.
